¡Hola otra vez!
Hello again! What fun things we will do this year in Spanish! Students are so excited to do the hands on "projects" during Spanish class. 4th grade is really a wonderful year to not only learn Spanish but live it as well. Before we dive in though, we will practice last years material. We will learn the history how the Spanish language diffused into Alto California via the Catholic Missions.
Get ready, set, and learn.
We have started our first unit - The 21 Missions of California. Students will receive a packet to go along with the interactive unit. Here is a list of the first vocabulary words in Spanish based on this unit. Spanish Words:
There are not many words on this list, just a few that were very important to every day mission life. They are:
Padre---father, used both for parents and priests
Presidio---fort, a military zone that served to protect all Spanish settlements in the area; there were four in California
Pueblo---town or city, they sold the goods produced by the missions
Plaza---central sqaure, the main gathering place
Lavandería---a laundry, a place where the women went to wash all the clothes
Dormitorio---a dormitory, a place where people live and sleep
Cocina---kitchen, where the food was prepared
Iglesia---church, the main place of worship
After the test we will continue the guided interactive tour.
This week of Set 14th We will write a native American prespective of the missions in class.
