Career Day was time
spent well. Students learned a lot about how it is all of
our responsibilities to serve others. We gained a new sense
of respect for what those in the Armed Forces do and how
they do it. The 5th grade learned that the USMC’s goal is to
make society a better place. Their motto is honor, courage,
& commitment. Our presenter reiterated the importance of
appreciating others from of differing backgrounds & learning
how to work with them. Mr. Dust & Mr. Stromp visited with us
about the Army. Their values include loyalty, respect,
service, & honor. They told us it’s important to believe in
yourself and how you must have strength of family, faith,
education, and discipline to be successful in life. The US
Navy presenter explained that life is an adventure and the
importance of appreciating others and what we have. He
stressed the importance of inner strength. Through our time
with members of the Air Force, we learned that whatever you
can be outside the Air Force, you can be in the Air Force.
We visited with fire fighters, mechanics, & pilots, who not
only showed us their materials, but they also allowed us to
touch them and try them on, really bringing their career
paths to life for us in our classroom. One of the most
important lessons we learned from the event was that what we
do today impacts tomorrow.
