Middle School Discipline Cycle

 PART ONE:  When Redirection is needed

 1.      Teacher acknowledges the problem and offers redirection to the student.

--Proximity, the ‘look’, a touch on the shoulder, verbal warning, or other form of redirection.

 2.    Demerit(s) on the behavior card.

--Students can earn demerits 1-5 at this level.

 3.    Detention

--30 minutes after school.  Student will contact parent to notify.

 4.    Demerit(s) on the behavior card.

--Students can earn demerits 6-8 at this level.

 5.    Detentions

--Two 30 minute sessions after school.  Student will contact parent and meet with the principal. 

 6.    Demerit(s) on the behavior card.

--Students can earn demerits 9-10 at this level.

 7.    Saturday School

-- Parent contact, student/parent/teacher/principal conference.

 8.    Demerit(s) on the behavior card.

--Students can earn demerits 11-12 at this level.

 9.    Two Saturday School sessions

-- Parent contact, student/parent/teacher/principal conference.

 PART TWO:  In Recognition of positive behavior

1.      Teacher acknowledges the behavior

--Verbal praise, pat on the back, extra privilege, smile, high-five, etc.

 2.    Merits on the behavior card.

--Students can earn merits 1-5 at this level.

3.    Removal of one demerit.

--After accumulating 5 merits, the student has earned the privilege of removing one demerit. 

 4.    Merits on the behavior card.

--Students can earn merits 6-10 at this level.

5.    Removal of one additional demerit.

6.    Merits on the behavior card.

--Students can earn merits 11-15 at this level.

 7.    Lunch with teacher.

--Student may select the teacher he/she will eat with.

 8.    Merits on the behavior card.

--Students can earn merits 16-20 at this level.

 9.    Breakfast with the principal.

--Student has earned a special breakfast treat and praise from the principal.
