Grade 7 News

7th Grade Newsletter

Week of January 4th

Reading – This week students will be taking their Literary Terms Test.

Speech and Debate - Students will spend their time during exploratory class becoming aware of what makes up a good speech and what habits they need to eliminate.

English -  To start off the year 2010 strongly, we will take on our daily spelling, parsing, and diagramming, as well as a "Person of the Year" writing project that will allow us to reflect on the impacts others make on our daily lives.  The schedule and guidelines for this project can be found under "English Syllabus" on the front page of the middle school site.  Students bringing in a hard copy of this to class on Tuesday will earn 1 point bonus!

Journalism - 7th graders will rotate exploratory classes, and will have the opportunity during the 2nd semester to take journalism.  I'm excited to see all they have to offer.  Please know that the newspaper staff (any interested 7th or 8th grader) meets before school on Tuesday's (from 7:35 - 7:55) and after school on Friday's (from 3:35 - 4:00),  to layout, design, and create materials for our school newspaper.  We'd love to have you join us in this exciting endeavor!

Math – Students in 2nd hour will be having a quiz over rational numbers.  Students in 6th Hour will be taking their Chapter 3 Test.

Science – Mid-Term Tests this week!

Science Exploratory – We will continue to work with the plants and animals.  The greenhouse crew will be making a plan as to what to start planting for the winter months.  Everything is going well and we even had time last week for a quick demonstration. This should happen again this week.

Social Studies – Mid-Term Tests this week!

Religion-  We will be viewing "The Nativity Story" which will sum up the comparison/contrast we did of the gospels of Matthew and Luke.

Notes:

The Website will be under construction over Christmas Break.

UNIFORM SHORTS/SCHOOL SWEATERS – As noted in the Family Handbook, wearing uniform shorts for boys and girls stops on September 30thStudents will again be able to wear shorts in the spring, upon Mr. Ridder’s announcement. Also, school uniform sweaters must be worn by all students in Kindergarten - 8th grade students during every Mass beginning on Thursday, October 1st. NOTE: - Every student in the building owns a school sweater, therefore, we strongly advise for you to put your child’s name inside their sweater on their tag!
