6th Religion – The students will take their final Unit 7 Test today and turn in their books!
6th Social Studies – The students will complete a small project and wrap up the year!
Reading – We are continuing our novel unit for A Wrinkle in Time. We will finish discussing chapters 4-6 on Monday and then move through chapters 7-9 throughout the week. Students will continue to log chapters and take notes on plot structure for their end of the book project. This project will be to create a story map using the parts of the plot we have been focusing on throughout this last quarter. Students should also continue to take notes on characters as they read. They are choosing adjectives to describe each of the main characters and find specific passages from the book to support these adjective choices. Encourage your child to work on these two projects as they read – if they wait until the end it will seem very overwhelming to them.
Science- We are just about ready for our final test of the year. We will review on Monday and Tuesday and take the test on Wednesday. We will end the year working in small groups. Each group will select a mini-lab to present to the class and may be asking for help in obtaining some of the materials necessary to complete it.
English- We will continue our work with diagramming sentences as we end the year. We will also work on our presentation skills as we complete a poetry sharing unit. Students will be asked to share a poem with the class. This poem can be one they written, or one they have selected from a different author. They will be asked to know the poem well before sharing; they won’t have to completely memorize it, but they should not be reading it directly from their paper. In addition to sharing the piece, students will have to share their opinion and/or the message the poem shares.
Vocabulary- We will work on set 24 this week. This will be our last vocabulary set for the year. You can find the list on the webpage under Nelson links.
Nelson Extra Credit—Students were given an extra credit option about two weeks ago, and have until Wednesday to turn it in. I had originally assigned it to be Science extra credit, but will give the points to English if the student desires as it is also a writing/speaking assignment. The guidelines can be found below.
Create a news report to emphasize an infectious disease. You will need to hi-light the general terms that would be important for 6th graders to know. You will want to record your news report either with a video camera or as an audio tape. You can also choose to share your commercial live. Be creative. The news is meant to share important information, but also does so in an entertaining way.
