The Library Media Program is essential to teaching and learning and to achieving educational excellence at St. Patrick's Catholic School.
Our Goal:
To achieve educational excellence, the library media program:
· Supports student achievement of curricular goals and objectives.
· Strengthens effective teaching and learning through collaboration.
· Empowers students to become readers, information users, critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and lifelong learners.
· Provides students and staff access to diverse sources of information, ideas, and knowledge.
· Provides resources to meet a broad range of individual learning styles, abilities, interests, and curriculum needs.
· Stimulates and promotes the literacies of reading, listening, viewing, and communicating for both pleasure and information.
· Utilizes continually changing technologies to address expanding information needs.
· Demonstrates a knowledge and appreciation of a wide variety of literature.
· Identifies current reading, viewing, and listening interests and incorporate these findings into collection development and programs.
· Utilizes a variety of techniques (e.g., book talking and discussion groups) to encourage use of materials.
· Instructs in the basic information gathering and research skills (these should include the skills necessary to use and evaluate electronic information sources, and to insure current and future information literacy.)
· Encourages the use of all types of materials for their personal growth and enjoyment.
· The Library Media Center offers a pleasant environment intended to nurture the development of a lifetime love of books and reading in our students.
We strive to provide a place where faculty and students can find the information they want and need.
