Class Expectations
Students need to walk into my class quietly. This is for everyone’s safety. DWP skills will be enforced in the art room. If students listen, they will learn. If they learn, they will understand. If they understand, then they will do. It is important to listen and follow instructions in order to have a fun, productive, and creative learning environment! I usually grade artwork based on listening and following instructions, using materials appropriately, craftsmanship (did you take time to do your best?), and completion of the project. If your grade falls below a B- your parents will be notified.
I am known to say the phrase: “If it isn’t yours, don’t touch it.” Many times artwork can be ruined by others and feelings can be hurt, I want everyone to take pride in their work and show respect to others work as well. All students are expected to take artwork home. Nothing should go in the art room trash that has been graded. Students will be down graded for this and parents contacted.
Classes are 40 minutes long. I will allow 5 minutes at the beginning of class to get materials if instructed to do so, find their seats, and wait quietly for instructions. I will then give 5 minutes after class to clean up their areas and put their supplies away. When I instruct the students to “stop working” it is very important to do so. This allows the next class to come in and have the same benefits (30 min.) as the class before them.
Students in grades 2nd - 8th will get +10 points every class for behavior, participation, and clean-up. I will remove points for negative, insubordinate behavior. I remind students that it is up to them whether they leave my class with +10 for the day. Points can not be “earned back”. Students will need to stop and think about how they will keep all +10 points the next time they come to art class and future classes.
