We have a wonderful group of 5th graders this year!  Everyday, I catch sight of random acts of kindness that are performed by our 5th graders.  Their little acts are truely inspiring.  So again, thank you for sending them to St. Patrick's.   

In Science this week, we learned about classification of living objects.  We performed an activity that grouped shells together with other shells with similarities.  After much work throughout the week, the 5th grade participated in Science Jeopardy Review!  

The Wonder of the Week was Diet Coke and Mentos.  We watched a clip of how the 2 react, discussed what happens, and then performed the activity.  For each 2 liter of Diet Coke, we dumped in about 10-20 mentos!  It was a huge success! 

This week, we will study how plants are classified, which includes vascular plants.  Starting on Wednesday, we will be performing an activity with celery and food coloring to emphasize vascular plants.  I am in need of 3 celery stalks and some food coloring for this activity.  If you are able to donate the materials for this activity, please send them with your child Tuesday.  Thanks so much!

 Language Arts continued throughout this week to work on Flipper Notes.  We have been writing, finding examples of the Capitalization and Punctuation Rules, and learning how to write using the rules.  Also throughout the week, the 5th grade has tackled how to write complete sentences.

Please continue to check your child's agenda daily.  The agendas can be a stellar communication tool for you, your children, and the teachers. Also, please continue to sign their agendas after they have completed their homefun.  Thank you for your cooperation and time!  

On Tuesday, September 11, Boever homeroom has Mass presentation.  We will prepare Monday.  Please help your child practice his/her role in the presentation.  Thanks for your assistance.
