I hope that you are you had a relaxing weekend!  Thank you to all the parents who took time out of their day to come in for Parent Teacher Conferences.  I can not emphasize enough how blessed I am to be teaching your children.

We look forward with great anticipation to Boever homeroom parent luncheon on Friday, October 26.  Please send your form in with your child by Monday, October 22.  Our class is excited to share our lunch with you.  The forms are located on my webpage in Forms.

4-H visited our classrooms this week.  We continue to learn about bridge structure.  On Wednesday, we were given an assignment to build our own bridge out of sticks.  Each of the 5th graders received a bag of sticks and directions.  These bridges are due on Thursday, Oct. 25th.  The bridges should hold at least 50 pounds.

Our Science Chapter 2 test is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31st.  The study guide will be given to the class on Monday.  We will review most of the week and into the next week.  Please continue to study 5-10 minutes in preparation for the test.

In English, we are doing a joint project with Social Studies.  The 5th grade is currently researching information on their assigned state.  The project information is posted on Mrs. Dewald’s webpage.  Also, we continue to share our written work.  The students really get involved in presentations by asking questions, pointing out strengths, and giving constructive criticism.  The feedback is always directed towards the writing, and not about the person.

The 5th graders continue to work on improving their note taking skills.  We discussed how to make terrific notes and what I look for in their notes.  When taking notes, look for the main points, dates, names, statistics, diagrams, and vocabulary words.  Notes summarize the main ideas of the chapter and should not be another version of the text.

Student Council has organized a new or nearly new coat drive that is going on Monday through Friday of next week.  Student council members will be out in the drop off lanes next week to help collect the coats.  The coats are going to be given to COPE.

Grades will be sent to Edline every Sunday evening.  Grades as of Oct. 18 were sent on Thursday, Oct. 18, so look for updated grades on the 28th.  Thanks so much.
