Thank you for sending your children to St. Patrick's. I am so blessed to be able to assist you in educating your children. The first quarter flew so quickly, and many life lessons were learned. Our 5th graders will use these lessons in the quarter to come and throughout the year.
Julia Cook, a local author, shared her time and published work with us. She gave the students tips and ideas of how to create their own stories and how to publish their work. The 5th graders were pumped about publishing their written work!
On Friday, 4-H came and worked on a hands-on activity with the 5th graders. The instructor assisted the 5th graders in creating their own bridge that held of 200 pounds. All the students played a role in creating the bridge. Each of the students was able to crawl through the bridge to test the weight. This coming week, 4-H will come again, and will give the kiddos an assignment(creating their own bridge!).
In Science, we are working on creating our own notes. After reading sections of the text, the students are taking notes on what they read. We have discussed that a great way to create the notes, is to jot down the main ideas, and to write more than just the vocabulary words. The Chapter 2 test is scheduled for Oct. 31st. A study guide will be given to the 5th graders at least a week before the test.
There will be no school on Thursday and Friday. Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday. Please sign up for a conference time as soon as possible. The schedule is posted on the windows outside the school office.
If you have not sent in your money for the Auction basket for 5th grade, please send this with your child as soon as possible. Thanks so much.
If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
