The school year is off to a great start! All the 5th graders are a blessing in my life. They are full of joy and are eager to learn. It is a joy for me to assist you in educating your precious children.
The first three days of school were full of activities and work.
We created classroom expectations together and discussed how to make this year the best. Throughout the first three days we practiced daily routines and worked on our organizational skills.
In Science, we studied and reviewed the steps of the Scientific Method. We realized that the steps are applicable to our daily life and situations that occur. To help reiterate the method, we tested 3 brands of paper towels. The groups worked through the steps and creatively conducted experiments to figure out which brand of paper towels absorbed the most water or which brand was the strongest.
In Language Arts, we began our first writing project! After collecting three items that describe our personality, the students began a rough draft of their essays. This next week, we will edit our papers and present them to the class. It has been a great way to get to know each other through writing.
Also in Language Arts, we have been reviewing how to proofread writing. The students are keeping daily Journals, that will be turned in weekly.
This coming week, we are looking forward to starting our weekly experiments in Science. Students will be working in several groups in Science, as well as Language Arts. We will hit hard on grammer this week and continue to review proofreading symbols.
Mrs. Rehn, our wonder Music teacher, will be sending out a email this week about a terrific opportunity for the 5th grade students. Please take some time and consider participating in this superb event and respond, as it is time-sensitive.
Tuesday evening is curriculum night. There are two sessions: 6:30 and 7:00. I look forward to meeting you.
If you have any questions or concerns this year, please don't hesitate to contact me.
