November 17-25 (Two week edition!)
Textbook Loan Program - On Monday, your child will be bringing home a very important form that you must sign and return as soon as possible. It involves the Nebraska Textbook Loan Program to Non-Public School students. Elkhorn Public Schools will purchase and loan textbooks to students attending non-public schools for the 2009-2010 school year. This is in accordance with funds provided by the Nebraska Department of Education as a result of legislative action during the 1989 Legislative Session. Therefore, we need to have you fill out the textbook loan form coming home with each and every child in kindergarten through 7th grade so that St. Patrick’s Catholic School can capitalize on this program. We are entitled to borrow the textbooks being utilized by Elkhorn Public Schools. Those textbooks include Math, Reading, Social Studies and Spanish. Please take the time to ask your child for his/her form, complete it and return it by Thursday, November 20th. Thanks for your assistance in making this happen for our children.
Jump Rope for Heart – All pledges are due by Thursday, November 20th. Thank you for your encouragement, support and donations.
Mrs. Brown’s Parent Lunch is this Friday, November 21st
No School – There will be no school Nov. 26-28 because of the Thanksgiving holiday. We hope you enjoy good times with family and friends. Below is a prayer you may want to share at your Thanksgiving meal.
Thanksgiving Table Prayer
O Gracious God, we give you thanks for your overflowing generosity to us. Thank you for the blessings of the food we eat and especially for this feast today. Thank you for our home and family and friends, especially for the presence of those gathered here. Thank you for our health, our work and our play. Please send help to those who are hungry, alone, sick and suffering war and violence. Open our hearts to your love. We ask your blessing through Christ your son. Amen.
Thank You – Thank you for taking the time each week to review your child’s graded work with him/her. Your child thanks you too, because he/she earns an additional homework punch each Monday if his/her folder is signed and returned.
Progress Reports – Reports will come home on Tuesday, November 25th. Please encourage your child to keep up on daily work and check grades weekly on Edline.
Preview of This Week
Math (Per 1 & 3) – We have started our 4th chapter in math which focuses on multiplying and dividing basic facts. We will finish up our chapter this week and have our review and test before the Thanksgiving break. The test will be on Tuesday November 25th. Be sure to visit your child’s Houghton Mifflin web-site to check out some fun games and things you can do at home to help your child throughout the unit.
Math (Per 2) – Our new chapter will focus on multiplying and dividing larger numbers as well as a few new concepts that tie into what we have learned so far. You should be seeing your child’s test that they took last week.
Reading (Per 1 &2) – We have completed Unit 2 in our reading books, and this week we will begin our genre study. Students will review, discuss, identify, and categorize books within the different literary genres. Our first genre we will focus on is realistic fiction. Your child will choose a book to read from that genre, and as they read their books independently they will be conferencing with me on how they are progressing through their books. They will also be completing book sharing activities that will reinforce their comprehension on several literary elements.
Reading (Per 3) – We will be doing the same genre study as Period 1&2 however we will be reading the novel “No Talking” by Andrew Clements. It is a story about a no talking contest between a group of 5th grade girls and boys at an elementary school.
Religion – We will be working on the Archdiocesan lesson titled “Circle of Grace” which teaches many ways to keep ourselves safe. This year’s focus is on Internet safety. Your child will bring home a parent letter about this Archdiocesan program.
Vocabulary – We will work on the Week 11 word list this week. There will be no list next week because of the short week.
English/Writing – After finishing our Oreo essays this week, we will work on the grammar skills we have been having difficulty with in our writing.
Science – We will continue with our unit about animals, and review for our test on Thursday, Nov. 20th. The students have several corrected study guides to use as well as their science books pp. A35-63. If your child lost his/her study guides, they are available on the website on the Study Guides page.
